back to old form

by Lauren Singer

as if nothing ever changed
you are a storm,
wirey and thick-skinned.
cold-blooded.
i always imagined you an imposter
in the shell of someone stronger
than you were,
but time goes by and you come to realize
that boys grow into men
and tastes get more refined.
but i never got over those
long, thin fingers
digging into shoulder blades,
the crooked tooth
and the unashamed giggle;
high-pitched and devious.
and in good form
you swing your long hair
from your eyes
and watch me from across the room,
in that mouth-open stare
and i wonder if you're remembering
the silly things we did,
the trouble that we caused,
the sins that we sought.
i did have fun losing
myself with you.
i just never recovered.

this time i will not let you crack me.

this was amazing! I think everyone has one of these memories tucked away somewhere, but you worded it so well! Thanks for a great read!
