Listen Closely by Gregory R SchelskeLISTEN CLOSELY
Listen closely
and let your tears fill my hands.
I will catch them one at a time
like the golden rods of sunshine
that blister your spirit.
Listen closely
and no longer kiss your garden with grief
where true love and thistle mix;
where water and dust only create illusions.
Follow that golden coin in the east
as she passes through the cumulous knuckles
of endless blue and rises above it all
in virgin choruses of ecstasy.
Praise the jagged corpses of experience
left behind by the true lovers of right and wrong.
Praise the misfortunes of the one,
or two -
or three
that have gone on ahead and never looked back.
Listen closely
to what I have imagined.
Heed my utterances
not because they are salvation
but because I have caught glimpses
of what is and what is not.
