Shattered Pieces

by Thomas K. Hunt

Her face
frozen in time
Drifts on memories
Floats through my mind
Lost to the years
Remembered in kind
The innocent feature
that I’ve left behind

Her voice
Echoes of the night
Hard to remember
the words she’d recite
Stolen by the wind
Confiscated by years
Lost in my ages
Gone from my ears

Her hand
No longer felt
A remembered touch
that made me melt
Fingers locked
aroused the glow
Held so tight
it hurt to let go

Her love
Filled my heart
Now is broken
Now torn apart
Shattered pieces
An empty shell
Lost in memories
Lost in hell

I like how you address one piece of her in each stanza. Really a strong piece. Thank you.

I had a shattered pieces tanka on here, too, had to remove for a submission though. This is very moving and nostalgic indeed. Well done.

Thomas, the emotion in your poems never fails to affect my heart. It is so deep and rich, that it feels like I can reach out and touch it with my hands, but then again it's just on the border of being ethereal.
