free bird by Charlie Morgan
ive read good poets who could write the sound
of birds;
all kinds, write the sound in their poetics.
the birds in my backyard make a ta-weee, ta-weee
and i dont have a small enough letter a.
its a ghost a, one second its there, next its gone.
like the bird that made it.

| Posted by Angela Nuzzo on 08/18/06 at 05:04 AM I really like this! The 2 intro lines are beautiful. I hope to be that kind of poet one day. I love listening to the birds around our house. We try to ID them by their calls, but it's hard to replicate the sounds. The phrase "it's a ghost a" is nice. One suggestion, to help the flow of the ending, I would add the word "just" at the beginning of the last line. :) |

| Posted by Glenn Currier on 08/20/06 at 03:40 AM lol... how often I have tried to think of a letter combination that would do it. In your light, charlielike way, you also get to that momentary sense of awe-full connection with these fellow creatures. |
