Tarry a While

by David R Spellman

Come, tarry a while -
walk along my paths which,
like long-lost friends,
rise up to greet you
welcoming you back
into the fold of their embrace.

Meander through my meadows
to join in the song of the thrush,
the taunt of the jay or just
listen to the melody
lulling you deeper to rest.

Tread my wooded trails
softly carpeted with leaves and
leading aimlessly as you will
allow yourself the pleasures
that solitude might bring.

Linger by my brooks which
murmur mysterious whispers
carried from nearby hills
beckoning you to follow
to your own heart’s content.

Marvel at my constant
ever-changing vestments
of seasoned sentries towering
above moss clung trunks
among lichen etched boulders.

Rest by my shores whose
surface graced by stately swan
holds mirrored reflections
of me into you, our spirits
commingle into one, leaving
nothing less than awe.

Come, tarry a while
take in my hospitality
stay as long as you may
like it or not when
you leave I’ll still be
there in your heart
and mind where you go.

I love this invitation - this could be a personal invitation, one from mother earth, or one of a more spiritual nature. Really well written.

This is poetry that ignites the senses. Simply stated, this dear sir, is the nature of you. Any further analysis might spoil its affect.

May I? Oh, may I? David, this is so gentle, sensory, and reassuring... as you are. Beautiful poem, this.

This is wonderful. It takes me back to my childhood and the little patch of woods that Mom and I would trapse through looking for the elusive morel mushroom.
