They'll Never Know
by A. Paige White They'll never know
I've been listening for them to come creeping in way past their curfew.
They'll never know
I was on my knees praying for their safety & for grace.
They'll never know
Since I was down here anyway, waiting up behind closed door, I'm praying for their lives to be used in a special way.
They'll never know
How, in my frailty, when I hear a siren and they're not here, my soul shivers and I begin to fervently pray.
They'll never know
How many incomprehensible words I've uttered when with understanding I could not pray.
They'll never know
What great light they shine on my today.
They'll never know
how thankful I am for our southern heritage; that our family can call Mississippi home.
They'll never know
How I pray the stars & stripes will attentively stand on display with renewed integrity through their lifetimes.
They'll never know
As I snap off the light, a shadow smile of thanksgiving for all the "They'll never know's", I've tucked away.

Posted by Julie Adams on 07/14/06 at 05:43 PMthis is a refreshingly original poem, filled with a plethora of all they'll never know...wonderful approach to telling...esp. loved: "How, in my frailty, when I hear a siren and they're not here, my soul shivers and I begin to fervently pray." (I've done that myself) AND "As I snap off the light, a shadow smile of thanksgiving for all the "They'll never know's", I've tucked away." ... pleasure to read you, peace n love, *jewels*
