phoenix

by Bet Yeldem

always lookin’ for the next flight out
watchin the sky
for the one i’ve missed
my feet
planted firmly here on the ground
how much longer can i stand
here
waiting
for the chance to fly away again
i know you think you know me now
and how i want a forever universe
in this one, though
leaving’s what i’ve done best
maybe it’s not now or never
not quite yet
this time
but one day it’s gonna be too late
i’ll rise up from flames
with new feathers
and i’ll be the bird on the wire
a thousand miles away
