Tadpoles

by Joe Cramer

We hatched tadpoles in the toilet bowl
Our grimy, sweat-stained hands
Wielding pocket knives, incising the loose jelly
Stabbing tadpoles, probing until
Some swam free, in caesarian waters, undulating
Alive. Surgeons from primary school
We laughed. Affection, wonder, pride
Father, brother. She called.
We flushed them.

The innocence of childhood shines through in this piece. Nice flow, lovely work.
