Me

by Joan Serratelli

I cannot be
anyone else
other then
who I am

I cannot do
what you want
me to do
or act
the way you want me
to act

I cannot
change the way
I feel
no matter how hard
I try

I can
only be me
I make no apology
I try
to be the best person
I can be
and not get lost
trying to be
someone I cannot be

Although our thinking can and does change, depending on circumstance, this poem reads aply as both motto and prayer for all of us.

When we change, we become different people, but not to please someone else. I like the strength of your poetic statement. Suggestion, maybe change the "can's" and "cannots" to "will's" and "will not's" to make it a bit stronger. Take or leave - just an idea.
