sympathy card.

by Andrew S Adams

dear (your name.)
i am so saddened to hear of your loss
i had to act at once;
good old (insert deceased's name) was
truly a great (Gender identifier.)
because i care so much about
you, i rushed to my grocery store
and immediately bought you
a card, which for
$2.99, neatly summarizes
my exact emotions about
(name)'s death.

i picked the one with the
prettiest flower on the front
because
they all kind of said the same thing.

i am saddened by your loss.

sincerely,
(my name.)

Isn't that a shame?

and what else can we do to express our feelings of sympathy without imposing our own sense of loss upon the grieving?

and how else to express our sympathy without imposing upon the grieving?...I am often at a loss in these situations.

i'd rather have hallmark say it thus than sound insincere with my own personal cynicism. but your poem definitely hallmarks the hallmarks. :)
