For Chris

by Kate Demeree

When you were small, and I was tall,

I held you in my arms

Gazed in your eyes, and realized,

I'd fallen for your charms.

When you were small, and I was tall,

Life was simpler and sweet

I only had to love you,

And give you food to eat.

When you were small, and I was tall...

It seems so long ago,

Children do not wait for you,

How quickly they do grow.

When you were small, and I was tall...

I loved with all my heart,

Not just from when I held you,

But from the very start.

Now I am small, and you are tall...

And soon you'll walk your way

I gaze into your grown-up eyes

Remembering the day...

When you were small, and I was tall....

Author's Note: I wrote this long ago for my son Chris... I Love You My Son *hugs* and now that you are tall and living your life, not much has changed *grin*... you always have been, and always will be.... My Little Boy!

A mother's love- the best, most unconditional love. A beautiful tribute to your son. I hope he appreciated this most heartfelt and wonderful write.

My son is my friend, my mentor at times and someone I admire greatly now that he is a man, but I do miss those days when he was the most amazing little boy....wonderful poem from a loving mother. SMH

This is so sweet, and so true, in terms of the changing roles in size.
