I'll play the part of someone else...

by Heide McAlister-Bates

...someone who isn't bothered
by the words I don't hear.

I'll get into character
so I don't feel the fear -

One laugh away from comedy
lies tragedy -

So I smile to keep it at bay,
then gradually -

I'll take centre stage

Read from the page

Hit all my cues

Get rave reviews

Suspend disbelief

Feel the relief

When I'm blinded by the spotlight
and can't see the truth.

this is a great piece...the movement and flow are delightful, and the reader hangs on your lines, one at a time...perhaps the dashes distract a little, but overall, the feel was rhythmic and engaging...well done, nice read, looking forward to reading more...hope u don't mind me adding you to my friend list...peace, *jewels*

If the reader takes this literally or metophorically this poem has great imagery and meaning, great write...I love the way the title just works into the start of the poem and you into it from the start. smh

as an actor, I loved this. I relished this. I wanted to die in the marvelousness of this and have it wrapped around my tombstone as my dying words (I'll quote you properly, of course). do you know the saddest part of most actors? We get so wrapped up in ideas of what's good and bad that we forget to have fun in the work we do. and that's the worst thing I can admit to you, as an actor. There's so much stuff we shouldn't even think about, but we do. and so much greatness is sucked out of us by it.
