why

by Peter Humphreys

as darkness
falls across
mountain
edge
I wonder
why

as crescent
moon scythes
velvet
sky
I wonder
why

as stars
pierce back
cloth
deep
I wonder
why

as blue
insinuates
dawning
dark
I wonder
why

as words
of
goodbye
fail
us
I wonder
why

I wonder why
we failed
to see
the
obvious

I wonder why
we made
life hard
when light
comes
of
itself
and
darkness
scurries
away
awaiting
its
next
chance

night
falls

I
wonder

why?

Seems the wonders always out-weigh the whys. I love pondering this one. Nice job, Peter.

I can't help but agree with the previous two comments. So simple the expression, and yet so powerful the meaning. Well done Peter.

Beautiful imagery, heartbreaking brevity.

I wonder why along with you, and so do love this wondering poem. My favorite part of the whole is "I wonder why we made life hard when light comes of itself..."

§ This entire poem is an absolute fav for me §
