Fine Print

by Amy Niggel

It was a quiet sound
not even a sigh
just the settling of something
long time coming
The breaking of a promise
and subsequent breaking of a heart
the strongest wills
are often the weakest souls.
It is a game of overcompensation.
So I'll hold my head up
and pretend that it couldn't matter less.
I'll rely on pride to see me through
where you could not.
I thought you'd promised uncondtional love
I guess I forgot to read the fine print.

Thought provoking read Amy and neat juxtaposition of 'unconditional' and 'fine print' which usually implies conditions.
