Super Mar Kit

by Timothy Somers

You were the fat lady,
in aisle 7
beating the child
with gravy on his shirt,
resisting you with all his might.

I was in the beer section
facing ol' Diogenes,
dark beer or light,
to fuzzy up the night
way past his bedtime,
with flickered neon.

Your were the bar code scanner
I was the meat sale banner,
you jumped me on the scale.

They almost threw me out
when you began to shout,
when I squeezed your Avocados.

Squeak and quiver wheel deep
down linoleum
by mustard covered shelves,
we threw ourselves in love
with magic coupons
Doubled every Wednesday.

Vitamins!
Vitamins!
Cold sore remedy.
Shrink wrap portabello mushrooming,
you came at me with frozen peas
stuffed down your Levi's on sale
fresh kale and chard thrown in
for tare weight at the salad bar.

I love you spinach
Miracle-whipped
bulk-shipped
fat lady in aisle 7,
spices, flour and
cookin' heaven.

Super Mar

"you came at me with frozen peas" - this is just a hoot! Thank you!
