Picture this

by Julie Adams

truth
exposed like film

naked
third eye in focus
zoom in
snap shot
mug shot
hot shot

can your lens handle
self exposure?

truth caught
red-eyed
in a dark room
lights off

hiding from negatives
your photo tries
to graphs lies
in acid flashes

no glossy finish
no tints, light
tricks, still
focused

exposed
in 3x5 blocks
of truth

Author's Note: An old piece resurrected in light of reading a poem with the same title by Tony Young (hey, read his too)...this piece is not new but still hanging around in a journal of mine...

Hi Julie. Like this, especially, "can your lens handle self exposure?" What we see upon looking inside, has sometimes already been on display outside, for others. Thanks for saving this.

yes...truth exposed quite starkly in this. Good writing!

Excellent use of extended metaphor to expose the evidence Jewels. A few words worth a thousand pictures!

a gorgeous capture of photography's raw ability. i love the simple one word lines...the impact they force. just like a picture, simple lyrical snapshots at the subject. good stuff jewels...i'll be back.
