The Cowgirl Rides Again

by Tracy Ellen

If I am riding away from you
It’s because of all those things
You knew would get me in the end
Yeah, maybe it’s a sin
Baby, you’re my best friend
But the mystery always wins
So I’m riding out again.

The sky is colorless, the ground is red
The planets moving, the stars fixed in my head
I got time to kill and a will to waste
You warned this would happen
Now you got shock on your face.

Send me a picture
When I get where I’m going
To remind me, sweetie, of where I’ve been
‘Cuz I don’t know if I’ll be able
to recognize a friend
If I think I need one again.

I’m riding away for good now
No doubt about it
The world’s cheap and unfair
And we’re too good to fake it
Trying too hard to make it there.

Tomorrow, I’ll just be trying
Not to be dying and so will you
And those sins you thought will get
Us in the end will have been
The only things worth living for.

The sky is colorless, the ground is red
I’ll be riding for the horizon ‘til I’m good and dead.

I can hear a great country song come from this one.

I feel like this should be set to music. I enjoyed reading it!
