Ambush

by Robin Patterson

                I'm consumed

                  with the

                  4 walls

                 that are

                 closing in

                effortlessly

                 suffocating

                and containing

                   me and

                  all the

                  while I

                  know the

                  earth is

                 no longer

                 under foot

                  in this

                 world of

                  mine and

                 I'm feeling

                 this rapid

                 decent to

                places where

               muffled screams

                 are droned

                 out with

               the background

                 noises of

                 life and

                everyone is

                 passing by

and I sink much too lightly

and I'm drowning much too slowly

and I dig my nails in

to pull the tight walls closer

            and I pray for mercy

            and I beg for peace

as I dangle above the flames

         that have ambushed me here

           in this forsaken place

"and I sink much too lightly, and I'm drowning much too slowly..." These are my two favorite lines in this very scary scene of this very well written poem.
