Obscure

by Rebecca Lin

Here's to the people
who never could quite cook,
to all the kids
who weren't dumb,
but weren't honor students.
For all the people who
always tried,
but never got blue ribbons.

Here's to the pupils
who were slow reading books.
The ones that attempted,
but could never run miles.
They only told white lies
and hid behind somber smiles.

Here's to the girl
that you always forsook
and to the boy
that longed for more,
waited and sighed,
got only slammed doors.

Here's to the people,
I know you get weird looks,
but you're the ones
that can actually see.
Times will make you want to cry,
but just remember
you're somebody.

I love that. It's so meaningful to so many of the so-called underdogs. I just..I don't know this one really touched me.

I'll toast to that! You even slipped your rhyme passed the significant anti-rhyme defenses. Impressive.

I like this a lot! Sing the unsung!!!! Let us all stand side by side on the podium of life! Well done, Rebecca! I have always wanted to counter with a poster to the one that says "I am the proud parent of a student of the week" blah, blah - with "I am a proud parent"!!!

I am beaming with love for this tribute! Amen! Amen! Amen! Brilliantly writ and vivid in the mind. Tré bién!
