JuanÂs Roses by Maureen Glaudeyes, your surprise gift of this rosebush
carried in its burlap to my reading
should winter well again
bundled up as promised
now outliving you

Called a "Carefree Rose," my first-ever rosebush, is
a gift from poet Juan O'Neill almost two years ago. Juan had been asking about it recently, as he often did, since my husband and I planted it here. Juan had a devoted passion for roses, and after I performed at the latin reading one evening, presented me this on-stage. I took several photos including the ones above and gave the copies to him, for whenever he missed the blooms.

Posted by Kate Demeree on 03/23/06 at 01:47 PM I can almost smell the blooms, what a wonderful thing gifts are... They live forever in our hearts. Beautiful tribute to the giver is your poem.... which also speaks well of the reciever! |
