Rap It Up and Toss It Out by David R Spellman
Give me R&B
or a symphony,
lots of Rock and Roll
with some jazz or soul.
Appreciate most music
but there's some that makes me sick
it's this modern crap
this thing called rap.
No interest in your violent theme
your murder victim's silent scream;
no drugs, no rape, no modern hoods –
can't capture me with those goods.
Almost a crime
with the rhythm and rhyme,
a cryin' shame
that you found such fame.
Quit assailin' my ears,
find some new careers –
I hear Hallmark Cards
need some brand new bards.
There in silence you
your words could spew,
let's me pick and choose
which to toss or lose.
And in the end
this is one I'll send –
"Hope you shut your trap,
Let's call it a wrap."

Posted by Melissa Arel on 03/21/06 at 06:23 PM The only rap group I like is GRITS (Grammatical Revolution In The Spirit)- they're really good ... and thats coming from me, someone who like yourself doesn't like rap much :) Anne's right too.
Its ironic how your poem is all about how stupid rap is, but you make it sound rappish. :) |
Posted by Kate Demeree on 03/23/06 at 01:44 PM Ohhhhhhhh Myyyyyyyyy... David! Reading this I could almost hear you rap it out! *giggle*.... I don't like most rap, there are a few new age christian ones that I really do like. This had me grinning ear to ear, while reading though! Well Done!!!! |

Posted by Bruce W Niedt on 05/20/06 at 08:53 PM Nice work - I'm far from a rap fan myself, though I admit there is some I've actually liked, more in the jazz/hip-hop end of the spectrum. And I have to admit there are some pretty clever "rhymers" out there, even if I often don't subscribe to the message. I know we get sick of hearing "rap is the urban poetry", but it's at least partly true, like it or not. Interesting that on the welcome page your POTD (congrats!) is jammed together so it reads more like a rap. Again, well done! d:-) |
