Requiem For A Friendship

by Joan Serratelli

I thought you
were my friend
I was wrong
friends don't do
to friends
what you have done
to me

You have deleted me
out of your life
without explaining why
you're not my friend
you never were

I thought we would
grow old together
you and me
against a cruel,
unforgiving world

But you have chosen
to leave me
just like everyone else
I thought you were different
apparently you're not

I don't know
what I did
nor do I particularly care
you're not my friend
you never were
and I have to live
with that

Author's Note: A friend of mine wrote me yesterday to say that I have been "deleted" out of his life.

the adjective "good" doesn't seem to apply to that friend. You're better off knowing now. In these days of quick edits and deletes, some people treat human relationships too coldly.
