9 Hour Drive from Palm Springs by Curt Alldaythe wall was all
you thought was
there
did you care
to look or fare, well
stop starin
in your reflection
in those omens
while
trying to take
this
all
in
and with one
big
breath of fresh air
your hair was
waving
and there
with
the TV down you
roared to me that
you've found that
"all you see
is a horizon without a frame"
and I said I felt the same
as the cares of the world were all in vain
long gone
then spacing
and
there's this song playing
reminding me
how
i
feel
about a world of gloss
and silence
strung together
with violence
gunshots
doves
there was love
in how we stared at one another
with each other
holding and
discovering
the resemblance
only felt in family
in timidity you
had as
we drove straight through
the night
with headlights
off and on
and stage fright
when holding your hand
driving with only fingers
while the locals
honk and
hold up
their
beers
and we steer
and smile back and turn up
the sounds
of ourselves
rolling
like
a
stone
until unknown
to the fortune
or newspaper
special editions
the tradition
of revelations
presented in cranberry sauce
while frailty beckons
from the wheelchair in
the center of the room
the rain pouring
on some sunday
before our last
time
together
where you sang it
all away
but what
you meant to say
was this is not the
day,
you see,
this is not the way
i want to live
my
life
in the high
of summer
but dont you know
when you
are
cliche
hallmark
a pleasant marketing ad
or
TV show
we know
this doesnt happen
or typically
go down in life as
you and I
venture over
and through your wall
never meant to crumble
or fall but to color
with grasses
and mosses
growing older
as our car
is cadillac gold
and we have
late nights
with Dylan left
till we're sold
on how
great this
young kid
really is but
not so far
away
ahead
oh say,
3 miles
we're set,
we'll be
there
