transaction

by Glenn Currier

white hair
slow but steady moves
morning greeting
that'll be two fourteen
thank you sir.

I wonder why this low wage job
for this poised elder-
a divorce, dead husband?

or in this momentary link
a Walgreens angel to assure me:
even without the gritty cross
of ashes traced on my forehead
Lent begins.

she gives me her peace
along with my change.

...yes, what is that about entertaining angels unawares? We rarely know or seek to know the real stories behind those we come across in everyday life. I see them as a great reason to at least smile they'er way. Thanks for this reminder of the season, and the people.

You speak eloquently of a side of Lent little mentioned I think.

Glenn, I love moments like these, since they take the sting out of others that aren't as wonderful. Beautiful, peaceful...passed on and on to countless people.
