Sir Christopher

by Chris Sorrenti

God
please forgive if I’ve offended
I never intended it to be this way
I’m only trying to be impressive
in showing you I know the game

What is mortal is not forever
I know that this is true
all I want is to be universal
to be a part of you
my spirit flies with inspiration
words are pulled from the air
poetry is written whenever it can be
consider this my prayer

And so God
a thousand prayers I’ll write to you
before this life is through
listen to my heart
flying on the wings of language
speaking out to all your children
through poetry we are one

Though if in truth I’m misguided
fallen from your grace
my words only lies to be cast away
then “let it be”
but if it is that I’ve been chosen
to be a messenger of the word
then unsheathe my sword of language
and deliver it to the world

not the first time you've been called that. This is like a lovely Valentine to God and to our craft at the same time. A treasure well worth unearthing for us indeed. A keeper, a new favourite for me too, like Maria.

A prayer deep inside I've whispered to God, only not with the humble eloquence of your poems. Thank you for the gift of finding words. They surround me with gentle quietness before God.

Methinks your prayers have been answered. The humility in these words speaks of service and I think the sword has touched your shoulders.

Your scabbard overflows with wisdom and divine. Break out the scaffold, Sir, this artful piece belongs in the Dome of Sistine. pe4ce...

Depth of desire with the very human uncertainty expressed with a wonderful directness and passion.

This is a beautiful prayer- too many great lines to quote. LOVED the entire piece! I'm putting this in my favorites!
