Nothing New

by Kristina Woodhill

Nothing new
as I idly watch
your black tell-tale
mildew spores
begin to coat
my shower stall

up just out of
reach without
my extra work
to bleach you
from my slowly
dying days

even as I soft soap
my bodyÂ’s mind
to slough off past
and present cares
then tease this shell
with plush toweled
touch

I know
youÂ’ll soon enough
embrace this
soon soiled
body spent
my final, last dissolve
your cleansing
last intent

very intense capture of the process. I like the slant rhyme with plush and touch. Wonderful. Kind of ominous.

I am immersed in especially the last three moments of this. You are priceless in your creative moves and surprising turns-of-phrase, Kristina. § Beautiful, this, and sadness inside some where, I feel it.

I am so happy to have discovered this little gem of yours. Shower stall/human body shaped, the form flows like water, who in some sense may be seen as the "you" of ultimate cleansing (as well as time itself, and earth). The restraint and elegance here so worthy of the topic, as of a framed miniature, or a 15th century lyric. A favorite of one who loves to swim in this!

I like this very much. The cycle, of cleaning mildew but knowing that you must succumb your own body to it in the end. Poetic in the truest sense.

I agree with Reen's comment. A sqeaky clean effort. A great tribute and capture of inevitability!
