In Defense of Mediocracy by Susan Q TomasWon't rest until you are the best?
Try being good and get some sleep.
Pour your whole being into perfecting a skill
or splash it around on all different things.
Jack of all trades, master of none.
That's me - flexible and versitile.
I've tried not quitting until it's perfect.
Uncompleted projects shout "done is good!"
Passionately pursuing perfection
I caught uptight neuroses.
As I shedded the yoke of perfection,
I let fear of failure fall to the floor.
I tell you, I'll never be perfect,
but most of the time I get it right.
01/27/2006 Author's Note: I always do my best in everything I do. Sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn't. I think this poem would make all the authors of those manager self help "In Search of Excellence" type books hurl their books at me and call me a loser. But I am happy. If I have misspelled anything. Let me know.
I am proud to say this was POTD in July

Posted by Kristi Paik on 07/27/06 at 03:12 PM I love it. You capture my perspective (as well as many others) on this idea that everything needs to be the best. Thank you Susan! |
