rusted

by Kate Swearingen

i learned from you
how to be silent

the pure heat of my
anger was
too refined for you to see

i hid it behind a
blank face and my
clenched jaw

never knowing
the tears that fell would
rust it closed for good

Kate, fantastic. So simple - direct - meaningful. I like it.
