sunbather by Mary Ellen Smith
freckled warm
sunny side up
she baths herself
stretched out,
unabashedly content
in the mornings waves
of sunlight.
She is bemused
for a few moments
by a flirting butterfly
and then turns her head,
her luminous eyes
betraying the mischievousness
of her nature.
the boy across the fence
steals a glance
as boys are known to do
through a hole in the fence.
the smells of breakfast
fill the air
and she gets up slowly
slipping into the house
to beg for a just a bite.
good puppy.

Posted by Glenn Currier on 01/15/06 at 06:19 AM Oh, did you have my imagination going! Only to be torn from my reverie by the warmth of the fuzzy one. The added dimension of the observer, well-framed by the fence. Clever and fun. Good one Mary Ellen. |
