What I Won't Miss When It's 2006

by Amy Wustrin

Wait a minute, what?
New Year's Eve is when?
Good Lord, I barely noticed!
Is it really that time again?

Are your going to try to get me
To look back on this endless year
With some crazy expectation
That, as usual, there'll be tears?

Well get that thought right out of your head
That's just not how I feel
Good riddance, '05, and rot in Hell
It's time to keep it real

I'm not going to miss my Buick
Or my part-time job at the mall
I sure won't miss being a drop-out
I have one gym class left, and that's all

I won't miss that endless depression
The deadly abyss in my soul
I won't miss those fights with my step-dad
I'm living a life that's more whole

So here's to Two-thousand-and-six
It's about time the Future showed up
When the alcohol headache has faded
There's finally hope left in my cup
