My Letter to Santa

by Karl Waldbauer

Dear Santa Claus this is my letter to you. It’s been in my head for years.
I have a request I think you can grant, we all know you're a generous man.
The toys you brought when I was a child filled me with joy and boyish delight.
Now that I’m grown I have a special request for something I want very much.

I’ve watched the sun rise, I’ve seen the snow fall. My soul was nourished indeed.
But over the years life opened my eyes to visions no one should have to see.
Something was lost as time set the beat, a state I can never retrieve.
Make me innocent again, Santa old friend, it’s the only gift that I need.

When you visit my house you will find a snack waiting, hot coffee to ward off the cold.
Candles aplenty, dancing in light; the cats will greet you with purrs.
Under the tree there’s plenty of room, but you needn’t worry about that.
That one simple present is all that I ask…until next year my good Saint Nick.

That's the stuff I want on my list, too. Seen too much, give me innocent eyes again. Nice Karl, Merry Christmas.

I enjoyed this one...innocence is the one thing you want and cannot get back. Nice write.

Yes, make it so for all of us! I promise to keep my house clean, and not too much partying. Thanks for posting this timeless piece Karl.

What lovely gem :) I came across it in the random favourites when I logged in - serendipity.
