Kin To The Devil

by Hartwell Davis

Kin to the Devil cause he’s colored red
Kin to the Devil all the white men said.

The injuns were hated by the white man kind
If you killed an injun, they say that is fine
If you kill an injun - that’s one devil less
They’re kin to the Devil - that’s real brother-ness.

If the injuns get you, you’d be better off dead
They will stake you out on a lively ant bed
First comes the torture then they cut your throat
The buzzards will eat you and that’s “all she wrote”.

Of course, they were cruel, they were wrong, I guess
But we took their land and could have cared less
Let’s remember each act and the reason why
Because we’re kin to the Devil, you and I.
