Fire Fighting Hero

by Hartwell Davis

The flames shot up a hundred feet
Three alarms sounded while the searing heat
Burned and rushed through the hotel floors
And the people were climbing through windows and doors

Red engines, the chariots of men with desire
Carried them to battle that dangerous fire
On pumpers, and hose trucks, ladder truck too
Rushing to battle with courageous crew.

A girl in a window ready to fall
Over the crackling of flames the men heard her call
Please help me, Oh save me, don't let me die yet
The firefighting heroes grabbed up the life net.

Jump and we'll catch you, one fireman did yell
While some held the life net, the others fought hell
Some saved the girl and others fought flame
All of them heroes, but where is their fame?

Some say its their duty, a job, nothing more
But the young girl they saved will always adore
Those men on red engines who are filled with desire
To go into battle a dangerous fire.

This is a great Poem of the Day. Very exciting and visual, a "you are there" kind of read. I love to read about our every-day heroes.
