On Mother's Coffee Table

by Maureen Glaude

Annual birth of blossoms
on Mother's coffee table
in her long-
silent living room.

The Christmas Cactus
a fuchsia outburst
its yellow-tinged centre
tucked within white streaks.

Several virgin buds keep closed
until debut; long ballerina’s toes
on point.

Flourishing in intense light
open petals flamboyant
and guarded by the
emerald green prickles of jagged foliage
in vertical sequence
from an umbrella-like tree.

Annual brightness
on Mother's coffee table
in her long-
silent living room

pleasing descriptions here, and a tight form

Stunning visuals here; sounds like a cross between Monet and Mately. Nice also in finishing practically with the same stanza.

Wonderful....like a haiku, in six part harmony!

the floral imagery makes its own noise in this piece. a wonderful captivating shot...i feel like i'd been there before. amazing how a plant can provide so much life to one room. nice.
