Father

by Delilah Coyne

He is more yours than he could be if we were together then.
Eyes of blue and golden hair, like yours, not mine.

Wondrous how you love him seamlessly, as if your blood were his.
I love you more for loving him.

Not a shadow of denial or a whisper of regret.
Even after more have come, still he's yours, your boy, your son.

You gave him more than just your name.
Your heart is his and his is yours.

How is it you accomplish this? What kind of man are you?
And how amazed am I that you are mine and his?

Delilah, this is a beautiful poem. I have adopted children and biological children...they are equally my own children. Nice writing. Thanks.

Delilah, I'm really touched by this poem. I am an adoptee, which is not unlike being an amputee. I just found my dad this year. He didn't know i existed for 33yrs. My heart is most definitely his, as his is mine. Thank you for your beautiful words.

Nicely written, with a captivating message, that leaves much between the lines to interpretation.

I am impressed with this poem, Delia, as I am sure the moment to write it stepped out and smiled at you. It is amazing to put into fine poetic form something long unspoken yet felt (almost unrealized and yet so familiar) because it is so close to the heart.

This is a tribute to love and more...to a good man.
