Contrasts

by Maureen Glaude

along the frozen creek’s bank, dormant pussy willows wait
along this rural road, a November morning’s stillness
breaks with a bulldozer’s advance, for the new development

Aptly worded reminder of man's and progress' continuing conflict with nature, with nature usually losing. What better symbols to express this than the bulldozer vs. pussy willow.

With dramatic effect you succinctly express the threat to rural serenity.
