guess i lost it

by Morgan D Hafele

i'm not
washing the dirt off my hands
anymore...
there's so much caked on now
it's not worth the effort
anymore...
and i still think of you
laying on my bed
with teeth grinding
and eyes burning from
something like tears
but you wouldn't admit
to crying
on my shoulder
to memorizing my words
and i still scream
into the pillow
we once shared
because... well...
you're just not here
anymore...

i'm not washing
dirt off my hands no more
'cuz baby
you lose the flavor
and the soap dries them
worse than the gasoline
i soaked in for days after
you left...
and i kept smoking
'cuz i wanted to burn
but no matter how the friction
might spark
i found no way to
set myself aflame

i'm not washing dirt
off hands anymore
girl 'cuz no matter
how i might try
to convince myself other wise...
well... these hands just
aren't mine
anymore...

Ditto both the above comments. Also, the beginning and the end reach out their hands to each other.

Text aptly reflective of its title. Good reminder Morgan of how we can easily be driven over the edge when that significant other is removed from the equation.
