"Roses and Raindrops" by Max PhineasI keep waiting for you
To arrive at my doorstep,
A bouquet of ruby roses in-hand
Grinning from ear-to-ear,
Your rain-drenched figure
Complete with rain-drenched poncho.
I ask you to stay awhile
Gesturing for you to come out of the cold.
Instead, you wrap your arms around me
And pull me outside.
My legs around your waist,
Giggling as we spin in circles
Neath the spring showers.
We lay down now,
Sprawled across my porch.
I can smell your cologne,
And your shampoo,
And you.
We sigh.
Inhale.
Exhale.
And I never want it to end
I keep waiting for you to arrive.
But I see you across the street.
Staring towards me as the cars pass.
And I know you wont cross.

Author's Note: For some reason, I'm quite proud of this one.
And I didn't notice the similarity between the title and a lyric of "My Favorite Things" until after I was done.

Lovely work, by the way. I think I'm adding this to my favorites. :) |

Posted by Glenn Currier on 08/24/09 at 06:39 PM Congratulations on POTD. You pulled me right out there in the rain - maybe not on the floor - but enjoying the joy. Then back down to reality and the longing in the last stanza. Excellent work. |
