Ellen White's Head (in the spring of 1843, Jesus did not return)

by Jim Benz

low in the skull

behind the eye orbit
arterial thrombosis
behavioral
automatism, thought
disorder
epileptic involvement
of the temporal lobe

a stone’s throw to the dreamy state

this is her vision
an intellectual aura: the temple
stone pillars
and a bleeding lamb

she is alone
but not alone, black
as a beast in the presence
of trumpets
up the staircase
into radiance
and a piercing gaze

his hand
is on her head, a blessing

"fear not"

i love how the imagery jumps around but never strays too far from the central theme; indeed, some visceral images here connect together to create a very vivid peice. loved it, simply. peace:a

I had to keep reading this again and again, because the images were so incredible. And mixing them adds an real emotional punch. The last 2 words of the poem are my favorite - since they have carried me through many tough times.
