The Third Eye

by Ashok Sharda

What's next is what keeps
One on one's toes
On our toes we keep life
From crossing the threshold
Of time and space

Life is here in the moment
But ever on the move
So too is death
In its colorful subterfuge
Prowling, ever knocking our doors

Can't we predetermine our actions
From pole to pole
Never letting our attentions drift or stray
Into the territories foreclosed?

Let us mount our attention with the reins held tight
Riding it back into its stable where our seat lies
Come love, let us occupy our seat for ever

Now we can open our third eye

So much depth here; Carpe diem, the awareness of one's soul, the inner fire. When reading I found myself lingering on the third stanza in particular, which is where the meaning of the poem really spreads its wings I feel. Your words lay your ideas out like a feast, Ashok, and it's a great pleasure to be reading your work again, my friend.

Interesting shaping of the poem, intriguing synbolism wide open for interpretation. The third eye?

Worthy continuation of your meditative series of poems Ashok. Highly illuminative as always. Goes great with a cup of coffee on a blustery day.

Ashok, you never fail to amaze me or make me think and I thank you for it. S1 confused me at first until I read it several times and realized within the paradox of your words, it is further clarified in S2 - yes, life & death co-exist. Once we accept that living in the moment, even as we hurtle into the next second is inevitable, then opening the 3rd eye to the unlimited potential is possible.
