Searching for something to compliment,
stepping lightly ‘round your hang-ups and pet peeves
and finding symmetry in the disparities between you and me,
both with our unbuttoned sleeves
rolled up for the heavy lifting,
trying to float this most shallow of discussions,
eyes shifting from salt shaker to clock with calculated discretion.
