Forgery

by Kristi Paik

The cover
glitter, balloons and a smiling face.

Clouds spell "Happy Birthday my daughter"

Inside; the card is blank
except two words-
love, daddy

scribbled slopply in mom's handwriting.

I have mixed emotions, wondering if daddy isn't there of his own will or was he taken away? No matter, it is all too common that children are growing up without fathers. I have seen the sadness in many children on Father's Day when they have no one to give a card with their name written inside. A powerful poem no matter which cause has effected your lives. JJ
