Acquiescence by Heide McAlister-BatesFill my mind with your wonderment.
Let me help you learn how to love,
I will learn from you how to be young again.
Walk with me for miles, side by side.
Never allow me to carry you,
just as I will never allow you to take the weight of my
world on your shoulders.
Taste the sweetness of life with me,
and I will kiss the bitterness from your lips
until it has all gone, and all that will linger
is the promise of joy.
Drink from my cup
I will drink from yours, deeply.
We will sustain one another,
nourish the tenderness that grows within
nurture the beauty that we alone can create.
Speak the words that will let me know your heart, your mind.
Answer my question with a smile.
Acquiesce.
I will surrender my soul to you
upon hearing you
say
yes.

Posted by Kyle Anne Kish on 09/19/05 at 01:39 AM Nothing to take apart here, Heide. The following stanza really hit home with me and is worded so beautifully: "We will sustain one another,
nourish the tenderness that grows within
nurture the beauty that we alone can create." Plus, the title and where you actually fit the title into your poem is absolute perfection. I look forward to reading more.
