there's a yellow stripe down the road
behind orange barriers
telling us where not to go

as we cross the threshold with disregard
the gravel gives way to earth
there, we plant a garden in the street
and wait.

when we return the following week,
we will set a feast upon the asphalt table
and we will dine, under a glorious
streetlight moon
until the inevitable hand of progress
removes the barriers
and removes our garden
removes us

and we return to the road
searching for more
orange barriers
on yellowstripe roads.
