she's 30, i'm a zillion

by Charlie Morgan

sixteen candles would only cover half the cake,
the other half is made of dreams.

first, a mere hatchling, murmuring
cooing fresh angelic breath,
eyes flashing at every movement.

one tuesday she's 8 going on 20,
when she's told girls can't be doctors
as adam (her bestest friend) said!
then
she was 8 going on 4.
as her
dreams burst,
and her eyes flooded.

today, (reading this)
she just chuckles
because, now
at 30 she works to be 8,
"recess is calling," her motto.

she sees lil' kid dreams,
with her eyes of imagination
and lassos them in adventures
as

she's 30 going on wise.

A zillion never sounded so good, but you fill it with your attention to the moments of meaning that dot the years. Lovely, my friend.

What a wonderful piece! It made me smile and made me remember the angst of being itty-bitty and now wanting to be carefree again... Wonderfully written! Congratulations on POTD!!! Well deserved recognition! ~N
