Rented Kisses

by Ann Lauren

It's raining in Seattle
and 97 degrees in Los Angeles.
I'm alone and sweeping up bits of heartbroken again,
and you have a warm familiar body in your bed.
Right is right
& wrong is wrong.
Everything is as it should be.

I can see the sun setting over the rain clouds
instead of the city scape,
and I feel a little bit of justice. finally.

This is what I've gotta do
Mine these three years of heartache
and clean up all the little pieces.
Let the heart of glass
be filled with the rosy chemical of sunset.
Mine this heartbreak
into an album, a novel, a life recorded,
And take that as my souvenir,
my lesson learned,
my currency exchanged
time for experience and
for rented kisses.

Congrats on POTD! Very well deserved. Beautiful expression of a familliar sentiment.
