TWILIGHT (FOREVER) by Terry OlynikThey danced
Their bitter tango.
Lethargy,
Not lust
The new caretaker.
He
Alcohol imbued,
Unapologetic.
She
Self-loathing,
Emotionless.
In the shadows,
With the crickets,
Death smiled. 08/22/2005 Posted on 08/23/2005 Copyright © 2024 Terry Olynik

Posted by Michelle Angelini on 09/02/05 at 11:51 PM Somehow death always gets her way. The words you used create a melancholy tone. Hope may be here, hidden somewhere, but it can't easily be found because of an unwilling attitude. The mixture of crickets (usually thought of as cheerful) & death in the last stanza adds a dimension that maybe she (death) can be cheated.
