paradise by Jim Benzfrom a crevice
in the rocky outcrop
your voice is drowned
by waters crashing I can see
you fall
I see your dying options
in the river swirling
on your breath
a thieving undertow
these vistas
outside our bodies
seem to cling
like flies
on broken windows
still we overlook
a jagged gorge
our heaven of beauty
god formed
from time
worn pleasure
and adrenal joys
it rips like flesh
wounds
from our blood stained fingers
a frenzy stirred
within the river gorge
we eulogize
our rough hewn
paradise
as if these unforgiving rocks
were tender like a womb
and the world below
is crashing on our natal ears 08/19/2005 Author's Note: published in TMP Irregular

| Posted by Kyle Anne Kish on 08/20/05 at 05:48 AM Jim, I liked what Dan said about this being "Kind of a roller coaster love poem." Then again, it could be a love poem from the beginning to the ending. Love often crashes in small increments before it comes to a complete hault. Your imagery is fantastic. "a frenzy stirred
within the river gorge
we eulogize" ... this line, for some reason I can't put my finger on, particulary moved me. Thank you for writing and sharing this piece.
