The Promise

by Leslie Ann Eisenberg

As I slumber all aflush,
hair a tumble in reverie,
the lonely hush of night creeps
hope from my bosom, hands
stand guard over a fragile heart

He came to me at midnight,
trailing his musk into my bed,
hovering over my head
with eyes of an ancient sea,
a cloudless green shining into me

His fingertips a divine tickle
rousing my bones, the heat
from his heart ran my blood hot,
Glory held his honeyed lips to mine,
and in that kiss, I heard everything:

I am with you

Asleep,

Awake,

I see you truly

I see only you

Comfort came as he sank
his weight around me,
skin on skin,
a cocoon of limbs
wrapping me in

Yes, these are beautiful moments of oneness when the time stops and what prevails is just this awareness of togetherness.

"Comfort came as he sank his weight around me, skin on skin, a cocoon of limbs wrapping me in" - beautiful. The merging of two as one in those intimate moments is close to divine, and you have so tenderly and genuinely brought us into this private world within a world and allowed us to rekindle and embrace that notion within us. Lovely piece :-)

Leslie ... you were marvelously in tune with how to bring touch, love and emotion to a wonderful crescendo in this poem. Although, I must admit, my favorite is the second stanza also.

It does have a very nice flow to it. The imagery and your phrasing is enticing.

This is divine, and the imagery so easy to slip into, like silk pajamas. Beautifully delivered.
