Spending My Life

by Heide McAlister-Bates

A new me dawns
like the sun on a
winters’ morning –
late, but still it rises
from the gloom
and casts it’s light
outward.

I will shine
with you and
without you
and because of you
and in spite of you.

My mind buzzes
with inspiration
my body tingles
in anticipation
of the delights
to come
and with the
memory of those
experienced.

I won’t regret what
I do
only what
I do not
because regret costs
too much to waste on
done deals.

I will do what
my heart leads
me to do
and I will revel
in the moment
and pay the piper
on payday next week
or next month
or next year
or never

Because you can get credit
on happiness and
it’s at 0% interest, baby.

Author's Note: I think this has a very Grrrrrl-y feel to it - what do you think?

This has a great feel to it, all the right attitude and spoken with a gleam in your eye. Nice job.

There's a great Jason Mraz song called 0% interest. It has much the same vibe as this, too.
